TWENTYNINE PALMS  – On July 22, 2017 a group of young Naval Corpsmen from 2nd Battalion 7th Marines arrived bright and early at the Twentynine Palms home of Charles Christianson.  Mr. Christianson, a long time resident having been stationed in Twentynine Palms in 1967 and retiring from the Marine Corps as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1970, was eager to meet the young men who were coming to help him with yard work..

“HM1 Roberto Garcia of 2nd Battalion 7th Marines contacted Reach Out Morongo Basin after participating in a several other volunteer projects in June and wanted to volunteer with a group of Naval Corpsmen from his battalion to help in the community. Together with six other volunteers they went out to help a retired Marine Veteran here in our community,” stated Robin Schlosser, Reach Out executive director.

Arriving early in the morning the home they promptly began working on pruning large limbs from overgrown trees, weeding and raking the yard and sweeping and cleaning patio areas.  Within a few hours Mr. Christianson’s home was ship shape and his smile of appreciation was evident. “These young men are Top Notch people and I can’t thank them enough for looking out for one of their own” said Mr. Christianson. He shook each of their hands and as they all walked down the drive towards their vehicles you could hear him cry out “Semper Fi” as they waved good-by.

Reach Out director Robin Schlosser closed with “We are very appreciative of the volunteers that came out to help our senior and disabled neighbors as they truly make a difference in our community and exemplify the honor and integrity of the United States Navy. We look forward to upcoming volunteer dates where we will be able to help even more people with their support.”
