New Group Tackles Noise Complaints from Vacation Rentals

Palm Springs – Matilda Jones, who’s lived in the area for 32 years, explains it’s become more of a problem in recent years.

“They are party houses. They just rent them to a bunch of young people and these young people have a big party and how would you like that every weekend,” says Jones.

Outside her house, a sign on her front lawn reads “Keep Our Neighborhood Quiet”.

She recently got on the bandwagon of Protect Our Neighborhoods group.

“It’s a grassroots organization that has sprung up to face the issues of the vacation rental hotels, lacks of oversight, compliance and enforcement of the vacation rental ordinance,” says co-chair David Carden.

The group has created about 100 yard signs and so far about 40 of them are displayed on homes.

“I think it just creates awareness on the neighbors that we really stick together, we can do something about it,” says Jones.

The group launched a website to encourage residents to take action and order a yard sign.
