Almost everyday I receive emails from LQ residents who are concerned about the goings at City Hall.  The emails have increased due to the upcoming elections and people have lots of questions and concerns about the activities of the candidates and the City’s involvement in their campaigns as well as the sales tax increase initiative.  I wish I could do it all,  but I cannot.  I am working on issues that relate to all of our concerns here in the La Quinta and work daily on them; however, I cannot be a one-man-army for all these problems.  I encourage all of you to get actively involved in the governance of your City, and that includes filing complaints with the proper agencies when you see something happening that just does not seem right.  I am in contact with various agencies and they all tell me the same thing, that people sit and complain but think that these government agencies will not do anything.  That is not true.  Every problem we see may not rise to the threshold of illegal, but advisory letters, warning letters, etc., can be sent to the City from these agencies and that puts the City on alert that we are watching.
That is how to put a stop to their shenanigans.  They have gotten away with it – abusing their authority and wasting our tax dollars – for too long because nobody was paying attention, or nobody acted when they saw a wrong.  If you write to the City don’t expect them to admit to a wrong.  They might send a letter written by the City Attorney, who has his own interest to protect, stating that he/she advised the City on a matter, blah, blah.  However, as mentioned to me recently by the authorities, “keep in mind that in the Beaumont case, the City Attorney was taken away in hand cuffs along with the others…”.  So don’t let any action from the city attorney deter you if you see a wrong.  Clearly, I don’t.  File a complaint.
.
And for those of you who ask how I keep going at it all these years.  I keep a list of accomplishments and changes that have taken place at City Hall over the years which I feel I have played a part in.  Some changes you may not have supported, but at least I feel I have made some progress.  Be an “activist”, don’t be an “inactivist”.
.
A special note to the “Nowashington50” group.  If you think Chandi is done with that gas station idea, I would bet money that issue was only put on hold until after the election and then it will be rubber stamped by the City if Evans is re-elected along with her wingwomen.  Chandi/Chamber of Commerce is a big supporter of Linda Evans/Llort/Fitzpatrick, and Chandi will have the Council decision wrapped up with a bow if they are elected/re-elected.  Vote for Joe Johnson, for Council, who is independent from that influence, and Paula Maietta, for Mayor….if you don’t want the same-old same-old.
