SUMMARY: Between Saturday, February 3, 2018, and Saturday, February 10, 2018, the King of the Hammers event took place in Johnson Valley. The off-road race brought over 50,000 visitors to the area. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin Station, National Bureau of Land Management (BLM), San Bernardino County Fire Department, Morongo Basin California Highway Patrol, and the Marine Corps Air and Ground Combat Center collaborated to provide public safety for all attendees. All agencies were able to communicate with the same radio frequency, which was staffed by BLM dispatchers, as the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department recently upgraded the analog system to a digital system. The event was well coordinated between agencies, which pr ovided a successful and safe race for all.

  • ten equipment violation citations, 130 warnings,

  • three reckless driving citations, 23 warnings,
  • 34 vehicle registration violations, 104 warnings,
  • 38 safety violations (helmet, double riding, etc.), 79 warnings.
  • 11 vendor violation warnings, nine supplemental registration warnings,
  • ten miscellaneous traffic violations, 37 warnings,
  • four driving under the influence arrests, one citation/release,
  • one narcotics arrest, 21 citations/release,
  • two battery citations/release,
  • 27 warrant citations/release,
  • 26 medical calls, with law enforcement response,
  • nine lost/missing person investigations. 47 field interviews.
  • 250 public assistance calls.
  • 1,355 total public contacts.
