JOSHUA TREE, CA — Opening its new 2018-2019 season of the region’s top-awarded live theater, the Hi-Desert Playhouse presents Joe Calarco’s lively comedy, WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD, this Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21, at the new starting time of 7:30 pm.  A part of its award-winning Reader’s Theater Series, these special Hi-Desert Playhouse performances take place at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater in Joshua Tree.
Directed by Kathleen Walker, WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD tells the story of two women of politically opposite thinking, who are detained in an airport bar during an endless weather delay with a bottle of wine and conflicting opinions about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  As the story develops, these two strangers from different walks of life, one from a red state, one from a blue state, find common ground and we discover what happens when all the shouting stops.  This lively and insightful comedy is a pure winner and stars Suzanne Avalon and Kathleen Walker.
Where directors, playwrights, and actors rehearse and present exceptional reader’s theater, the Playhouse’s Reader’s Theater Series showcases superb acting talent in a professional setting with an intent to create thoughtful discussion and social community for live theater actors and enthusiasts.
WALTER CRONKITE IS DEAD has a suggested rating of PG13 and no children under 5 are admitted.  Elite seating tickets are $18 and General admission tickets are only $12.  All tickets include one drink ticket.  A cash bar is also available.
