JOSHUA TREE, CA – The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s prestigious Hi-Desert Playhouse theater division, which recently garnered an astounding 54 award nominations for theatrical excellence from the Desert Theatre League, will be holding auditions September 10, 2016 for its newest upcoming theatrical and technological sensation, DRACULA.  Based on Bram Stoker’s timeless masterpiece and adapted for the stage by William McNulty, Playhouse Artistic Director Howard Shangraw invites all area actors, community and Equity, to audition to be a part of this season’s most frightening ‘feast’ for the senses!  Presented in 7.1 cinematic surround sound with state-of-the-art lighting and visual special effects, DRACULA at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center will run evenings October 21, 22, 28, 29, 30 and 31.  Interested actors and individuals desiring to be a part of this high-end production may send an email to info@hidesertculturalcenter.org for more information.  Resumés and headshots are appreciated.  Audition sides will be provided.
The cast of characters for the Cultural Center’s Playhouse production of DRACULA include: DR. SEWARD (an intelligent, fine young Englishman in his 30’s); COUNT DRACULA (A brute who revels in the pain and suffering he brings to others); PROFESSOR ABRAM VAN HELSING (an older man, still in good physical condition with a razor sharp mind and an intense interest in the super natural); MINA GRANT (a beautiful “undead” woman in her late twenties); LUCY WESTPHAL (a beautiful young English woman displaying the same troubling symptoms as her friend Mina); JONATHAN HARKER (a young solicitor who is handsome, impetuous, and madly in love with Lucy); RENFIELD (a lunatic of unique appetites and unfortunate sense of humor—very physical role); A MONSTER (vicious, supernatural demon; the shape assumed by Dracula when he isn’t concerned about appearances); MARGARET SULLIVAN (Dr. Seward’s loyal assistant at the assylum, becomes a victim of Dracula); NOBERT BRIGGS (an attendant at the asylum—a rough customer, not entirely a brute; in love with Margaret Sullivan); THE BRIDES (Vampiresses with seductive ways and dire purpose); and THE CHILD (a young female victim able to appear age 7 -10).
The HI-DESERT CULTURAL CENTER (DBA) is a fully recognized non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation: “HI-DESERT PLAYHOUSE GUILD, INC.” Federal Tax ID# 23-7425816, California Department of Justice Charity Registration #008976 . Donations to it are deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
