JOSHUA TREE, CA — Before BEAUTY AND THE BEAST…, before THE LITTLE MERMAID…, there was the big, mean, green mother of a horror musical, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS!!  Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s campy and scary musical version of the darkly comic cult film of the same name opens this week at the Blak Box Theater at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center — just in time for Halloween.  Produced by the Cultural Center’s top-awarded theater division, the Hi-Desert Playhouse, who won this year’s 2017 “Outstanding Production – Musical” from the Desert Theatre League for its smash hit production of GODSPELL, this fantastically talented cast is sure to satisfy your bloodthirsty appetite for ferocious fun!  Performing a raucous score that is part Rock ‘N’ Roll, part Doo-Wop, and part Motown, the live band featuring Nelms McKelvain on keyboard, MacKinley Stewart on bass, and Ethan Banas on drums is sure to rock your soul.
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS stars Scott Clinkscales as nerdy Seymour, Elizabeth Schmelling as ditzy Audrey, Barry Cutler as the overwrought flower shop owner Mr. Mushnik, and Alden Dickey as the demonic dentist Orin Scrivello.  Analisa Pilecki, Jasmine Shaffer, Bianca Stoker and Britney Vachon-LaGuardia make up the street-wise Greek Chorus.  Spectacular cameos by Haley Kooyman and William Hart round out the performances in this story of fame, fortune, and a strange and interesting thirsty little plant!  This is a killer musical you sure don’t want to miss!
Complimentary light refreshments and a full cash bar will be available during the performances.  This show has a suggested rating of PG-13.  To purchase tickets or for more information, patrons may visit, visit the Hi-Desert Cultural Center Box Office in person Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm, or call the Box Office at 760.366.3777.  The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is located at 61231 Hwy 62 in Joshua Tree, CA.
