On December 1, 2017, at approximately 1730 hours, Michael Daugherty, of Big Bear, CA. was driving a 2009 Dodge Durango northbound on State Route 247, north of Linn Rd. at approximately 55 miles per hour.

Party 2 was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on State Route 247, at an undetermined rate of speed.

Daugherty was driving behind a tractor-trailer combination and pulled into the southbound lane to overtake the tractor-tailer. Daugherty was unable to see the Chevrolet Cavalier being driven by Party 2 approaching from the opposite direction as he pulled out from behind the tractor trailer.

Upon observing each other in the same lane approaching from opposite directions, both Daugherty and Party 2 took evasive action. Daugherty swerved to the left and Party 2 swerved to the right, where both vehicles collided head-on on the westbound shoulder of State Route 247. After colliding, both vehicles overturned and came to rest on the westbound shoulder of State Route 247.

Party 2, a 22years old male and his 19 years old female passenger were pronounced deceased on scene.

Daugherty and his daughter, Nevaeh Daugherty, who was restrained in a child safety seat, were both transported by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, CA.

Michael Daugherty suffered major injuries resulting from this collision and Nevaeh Daugherty sustained minor injuries.

The exact cause of this collision is still under investigation by Officer J. McNutt.

Deceased parties names have been withheld pending Coroner notification to next of kin. See San Bernardino County Coroner Case #’s 701708228 and 701708231 for further information.
