On August 8, 2020 at approximately 2:40 pm, Valerie Glover, 36-year-old from Joshua Tree, was driving a silver 2014 GMC Terrain, southbound on Mountain Shadow Road. Paul Rendon, 58-year-old from Yucca Valley, was driving a white 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII northbound on Mountain Shadow Road approaching the GMC with passenger Jerry Hardcastle, 56-year-old from Joshua Tree. Both vehicles were traveling close to the center of the dirt road. As both vehicles reached the crest of a hill at the intersection with Moonlight Mesa Road, the two drivers had little time to react and the GMC and Lincoln crashed. After the crash, both vehicles came to rest within the roadway. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and had minor injuries. The passenger, Hardcastle, was not wearing his seatbelt, sustained major injuries and was transported to Hi-Desert Regional Medical Center.
This collision is being investigated by Officer Swanson. The CHP would like to remind motorists wear your seatbelt and to drive on the right half of a roadway. Be cautious of dirt roads and the width of the roadway. Slow down when approaching intersections, blind hills and curves.
