Palm Desert, CA- On September 03, 2016, at approximately 10:07 P.M., the Palm Desert Police Department responded to the report of a two-vehicle traffic collision at Monterey Avenue and Dinah Shore Drive, Palm Desert. Investigation revealed a silver Ford Expedition was traveling northbound on Monterey Avenue when it collided with a white Ford Mustang in the intersection of Monterey Avenue and Dinah Shore Drive.
Upon arrival, paramedics located the passenger of a white Ford Mustang, a resident of Palm Desert, deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford Mustang, a resident of Palm Desert, was transported to a local area hospital as a precautionary measure. The driver and sole occupant of the Ford Expedition was not injured. He was identified as Pedro Leon Castellanos, 27 of Thousand Palms. Castellanos was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, causing injury. Castellanos was taken to a local area hospital as a precaution before he was booked at the county jail in Indio.
The intersection of Monterey Avenue and Dinah Shore Drive was temporarily shut down while the investigation took place.
