A mother is arrested after choking her 7-year-old son & threatening to kill him for accidentally spilling food

INCIDENT: Penal Code 273 a(a) – Cruelty to a Child

LOCATION: 4500 block of Adobe Road, Twentynine Palms

SUSPECT: Brittany Phillips, 27 years old, resident of Twentynine Palms

VICTIM: Confidential – 7-year-old male


On Thursday, July 27, 2017, at approximately 9:25 p.m., deputies responded to the 4500 block of Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms for an in-progress cruelty to a child call. Upon deputies arrival, a witness was contacted and directed deputies to the location where a 7 year-old male victim could be contacted and was safe from his mother. Through investigation it was learned that the victim accidentally spilled some food in the house and his mother, Brittany Phillips, became angry. Phillips began yelling at the victim, choked him, hit him in the face, threw him aganst a wall and threatened to kill him. Phillips was contacted outside of her residence and found to be intoxicated.

Phillips was arrested for Penal Code 273a(a) – Cruelty to a Child and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Phillips was found to be on Probation and a no bail Probation hold was placed on her.

The victim only sustained minor injuries and was placed into the care of Child and Family Services.
