INCIDENT: Arson/ criminal threats

LOCATION: 700 block of Canyon Road, Twentynine Palms

SUSPECT(S): 17-year-old male resident of Twentynine Palms

VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY: On August 9, 2020, at 8:25 p.m., deputies assigned to the Morongo Basin Station responded to the report of a fire in the 700 block of Canyon Road in the unincorporated county area of Twentynine Palms. During the investigation deputies learned an argument occurred between the resident and their 17-year-old son over an electronic device. The male juvenile threatened to physically harm the parent and set fire to the home. In fear, the parent fled the location. Several residents in the area called 911 reporting a fire at the property. Responding deputies located the home fully engulfed in flames. Deputies were able to locate the male juvenile nearby as he attempted to flee the scene on an off highway vehicle. The male juvenile was detained without incident. Detectives from the Bombs and Arson Division responded to assume the investigation at the scene. The male juvenile was arrested for criminal threats and arson and was transported to San Bernardino Juvenile Hall for booking.
