HAPPY 4TH!

Keep safe. Remember fireworks of any kind are illegal in San Bernardino
County. Anyway, hot and dry former greenery make them even more
dangerous!

TWO-BUCK CHUCKWAGON
 • Yummy summery indoor picnic at the Johnson Valley Community Center this Saturday evening, July 6
the Two-Buck Chuckwagon will arrive! Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips,
salads, cold soft drinks or bottled water, take your choices! For
dessert: cookies and ice cream top it all off.

Everyone is invited, only 2.00 per person; kids 12 and younger half price!

Come enjoy this Johnson Valley Independence weekend tradition. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Two-Buck Dinner at 5:00.

Stay
a while after; you do not have to be a member of JVIA to participate in
the General Meeting after dinner, hear all the announcements and
updates on what’s happening in our high desert.

Plenty of daylight for staying longer, if you don’t care for driving after dark!

From
Hwy 247, at the big red Johnson Valley sign between mile markers 21 and
22, turn onto Larrea Rd. Go 1-3/4 miles up to Quailbush Rd. and you
will see the building on your left. Pavement all the way, and plenty of
parking.

NEW-TO-YOU DONATIONS

When else are doors at the Center open? We get inquiries from folks who
have good things to donate for the New-To-You Table, or books for the
Book Sale (and your donations help make up for any midsummer slump in
revenues and are very welcome).

So far this year, so many folks
have made purchases, donating whatever they wish for the bargains they
find, that Hobby Club can make a substantial donation to JVIA to help
with the operation of the Community Center!

But it works best when you bring in tools or toys or utensils or treasures you no longer want or need, on the following days:

The
Card Club meets on Tuesday. Usually the doors open by 11:30 a.m. so you
can come in before the pinochle game that begins at noon. Hey, stay to
play; beginners welcome!

The hall also opens for volunteers by
10:30 a.m. on most Wednesdays, to prep for serving the Saturday
Breakfast or to decorate the hall, or other activities, till about 12:30
or even later, depending on what we are doing.

And of course,
the Saturday Breakfast continues though many regulars are away. Relax
and enjoy your never-empty coffee cup between 7:00-10:00 a.m., as we
count ourselves lucky to have this comfortable place to meet. As the
saying goes, everyone talks about the weather…and we do it, too, while
we sit inside in the cool.

Sorry, we cannot accept clothing.

THE GARDEN NEXT DOOR
The
Paul Van Hook Desert Dreams Garden lately has suffered from the
attentions of someone who thinks it is amusing to pick all the fruit,
turn on the water and wash out the berms around the trees, and flood the
area, This kind of stupid behavior may amuse the perpetrator, but the
Garden Committee and community members find it petty and purposeless.

MOBILE MEDICAL UNIT IN YUCCA MESA
See
the flyer attached for the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) scheduled to be at
Yucca Mesa Community Center on Wednesday, July 17th, at 10:00 a.m. The
possibility that they may fit Johnson Valley into the schedule in the
fall has come up. In the meantime, you may want to check it out, Yucca
Mesa is not that far away. Many of us have been the Community Center for
HVCC meetings and Mesa Fest, so you know the way.

If you do decide to make an appointment, let us know what you think.

HOUSE CALLS
Friendly reminder, Dr. Chris Lawrence will be in Johnson Valley this weekend and available for Chiropractic house calls.
Call or text 760-810-2443 for an appointment. Or if you wish, you can schedule an office visit in Apple Valley.

FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS
New

the Johnson Valley Journal six times a year. The next issue is in the

It
contains news, Association events, photos of wildlife, OHV happenings,
history, and advertisements for businesses willing and able to serve us
out here and on the highway.

the Center.

Valley.

BREAKFAST HELP STILL WANTED!

If you can volunteer some hours on a Saturday morning, consider joining
one of the breakfast crews! Cooks and pancake cooks needed, plus help
with serving, dishwashing, and cashiering. Talk to Kim Abramson to find
out what is needed, 760-792-4555. (This time I have the number right!)

OFF-ROADERS WELCOME
Stop
by the Community Center between 7:00-10:00 a.m. for the Saturday
Breakfast  with a never-empty coffee cup. Large breakfast, only 6.00!
Small breakfast, 4.00.

Navigating by GPS? – find your way to the Community Center:
34.3424938     -116.56066880000003.

The
best way to the Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area using community
roads: go straight down to Hwy 247 on the road nearest you. You can
cross directly over the highway legally to the dirt trail running along
the north side of Hwy 247. (Please stay on the dirt shoulders if you
travel on the paved Larrea Road while in or on a green-sticker vehicle.)

Hot
tips! Ride out early before the temperature rises. Take more water than
you think you need, tell people where you plan to go. Verizon has
pretty good cell coverage out there; ATT not so much. Never go out there
alone.

Slow, please, on the community roads. Glance behind you,
you are raising a cloud of dust which drifts a long way. Watch out for
all the blind corners, you can’t see what’s coming. Remember, any
vehicle, street-legal or not, going over 25mph damages dirt roads.
Delivery vehicles and the trash truck do the worst, but OHVs get the
blame.
